Executive Branch

The Executive branch is the part of the government which enforces the law. The executive branch is led by the President who is the primary executive body and wields executive authority according to the Constitution. The Vice President is the secondary executive body and has executive authority second only to the President. Under the President, the government is composed of departments led by Executive Officers, each tasked with managing a defined part of the executive's function.

Office of the President

President
The head of state and head of government of SimDemocracy. The President wields executive authority, directs the Executive Branch, and has primary authority over foreign affairs with the power to negotiate treaties and agreements.
Vice President
The secondary executive body with executive authority second only to the President.

Legislative Branch

The Senate is the parliament and primary legislative body of SimDemocracy. Established in February 2019 and last re-established in July 2022, the Senate has been the legislative body of SimDemocracy for the majority of its existence. In Senatorial elections, a varying number of Senators based on the amount of valid votes cast are proportionally elected for fixed two-week terms.

The Senate's authority is derived from Article 1 of the Constitution which grants it the power to pass legislation with a simple majority vote, the power to propose constitutional amendments, as well as the power of impeachment. Article 4 additionally grants the Senate the authority to conduct oversight of governmental bodies and individuals, including the power to subpoena current and former officials and appoint special counsels.

Senators
Proportionally elected members who serve two-week terms, pass legislation, propose constitutional amendments, and conduct governmental oversight.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial Branch of SimDemocracy consists of a three-tiered court system, ensuring justice and constitutional integrity throughout the community.

Supreme Court

Chief Justice
Leads the Supreme Court, the highest court of SimDemocracy with ultimate appellate jurisdiction over all court cases.
Supreme Court
The highest court with three broad categories of authority: ultimate appellate jurisdiction, judicial review power to invalidate actions or laws incompatible with higher authority, and the ability to hear reference cases issuing legally binding opinions on hypothetical matters.

Court of Review

Chief Judge
Leads the Court of Review, an appellate court that operates between the Inferior Court and Supreme Court.
Court of Review (CoR)
An appellate court that reviews cases from the Inferior Court before they reach the Supreme Court.

Inferior Court

Inferior Court (IC)
The primary court which handles all civil and criminal matters in SimDemocracy.

Supervisors & Independent Offices

Independent supervisory positions that ensure the smooth operation and integrity of SimDemocracy's democratic processes and platforms.

Elections Supervisor (ES)
Also known as the Supervisor of Elections or Elections Commissioner, this position is in charge of administering SimDemocracy's elections and referendums. They post Call For Candidates (CFC) on Friday, voting links on Saturday, and results on Sunday. The Elections Supervisor may appoint deputies to assist with their duties.
Reddit Supervisor
The head moderator of the SimDemocracy subreddit. Their role is to add and remove moderators and remain apolitical. This is a dormant position.
Discord Supervisor
The owner of the SimDemocracy Discord Server who ensures that everything runs smoothly on the platform.
